Soon, it will be a year since I started journaling. I can attest that journaling has definitely
helped me process what I’m thinking and improve my decision making. Journaling
provides the opportunity to write about anything you want. Personally I wrote about my feelings and worries. I was in such an emotionally challenging place in late 2019 and in 2020. I came to the conclusion that I had so many unprocessed thoughts in my head that needed to be sorted out. Now, I have become a more mindful individual and have been able to manage my emotions in a more efficient way. Journaling also helped me realize my passion for writing. Journaling is extremely beneficial- here are some of the ways it can help you.
1. Journaling aids in keeping your thoughts organized.
When you journal, you are organizing your thoughts throughout the day. This will help you better interpret those thoughts, which helps you become mindful of the decisions and actions you take in life. It also aids in recognizing your priorities.
2. Journaling helps you set and achieve your goals.
Writing down your goals and priorities is one of the most useful aspects of journaling. By writing down your goals/aspirations, you can monitor your progress. Checking off one or two things a day will definitely help you feel motivated to tackle those future goals!
3. Journaling helps you boost your memory.
Writing down information in your journal will help your brain better recall that information later. This concept is the same reason why teachers prefer students take handwritten notes- it's a scientifically proven path to better, more accurate memories.
4. Journaling helps with self-reflection.
Journaling is a great way to collect your thoughts, especially since life can move at such a fast pace. By journaling, you can take the time and reflect on gratitude or what you did during the day. You can always refer back to your journal to see how much you have grown in life or what you can work on to become the best version of yourself.
5. Journaling is stress relieving.
Journaling is a great way to relieve stress. While journaling, you may write down your anxieties, pain, and frustrations in life. By writing down these emotions, you are freeing yourself from the burden of overwhelming thoughts in your mind. It will definitely feel good to get feelings of anger or fear out into writing and possibly determine a solution to get out of those circumstances in the future.
6. Journaling helps you improve your writing skills.
Journaling is a great way to boost your writing performance. Written communication is an
essential skill to have in life. In the professional world and in academia, the ability to write well will be a valuable asset. Developing your writing performance requires lots of practice, and journaling helps you get that practice.
